Personally, I enjoy historical novels and with 9-11 around the corner it's important to remember our fighting men and the other wars that give us our freedom today. In The White Doves Soar, the stage is set in 1943, as Air Force First Lieutenant Jacob "Jake" Bradford prepares for his first mission in Greece during World War II. He and his best friend, Lieutenant William "Buck" Henderson, embark on a flight to parachute Buck into the hills outside of Athens, which throws them right into the reality and fury of the war.

Disaster strikes in Laviro, Greece, for Sara Emmanuel, a young assistant college professor. She is placed under the control of the German Nazis, like most orthodox Jews, through Adolf Hitler's "Final Solution." Only those with unwavering strength will survive this tragedy. Sara and Jake eventually cross paths, enriching the plot and further describing Greece during World War II.

In the fall and winter of 2009 -- 2010, I wrote the story in longhand, then through the miracle of computer technology. About the Author: Paul W. White was born on October 9, 1959, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Ed and Nancy White. He also has a sister, Janan White Little. As Janan is quick to point out, she may be five years older than Paul, but she looks ten years younger.

Shortly after his first birthday, the family moved to Casper, Wyoming. In 1963, they relocated to Midland, Texas, where they remained throughout Paul's formative years.

After graduating from Midland High School in 1978, Paul attended the University of Texas at Austin. He graduated from U.T. in 1982, and was accepted into the St. Mary's School of Law in San Antonio. He received his law degree from there in 1985.

After remains of the astronomical complex, an older generation envies the cast of characters Bradley, Joel, Caroline, and twins Betty and Bertha whose brain functions increase in capacity as they mature. The mutants must keep their powers secret, as one of their abilities proves to be potentially lethal. K. A. McDicken proves to be a master at character development which makes "In The Cold Light of Tomorrow" a delightful read.

Bizarre murders occur that have the authorities scratching their heads until Bradley steps in and assists and becomes a benefit. Bradley needs to solve the murders before a civil war erupts over a ‘marriage question’. Now we have a a 'Whodunit' plot that the author raises her game very nicely and ads more layers to the story.

In a recent Interview the author said, "I personally like to read books that have a different theme, other people do too. That is obvious from the spate of werewolf/vampire/other creature books/films that are popular.' In the Cold Light of Tomorrow' examines possibilities of mutations that could occur within the brain. The catastrophe that takes place before the start of the book is based on the theories of Immanuel Velikovsky, whose relevant books are listed in the Bibliography along with Homer's Iliad. The mutations to the brain enjoyed by the New Waves, do not make them super-heroes. Some of these are claimed (but not proved) to exist now , especially telepathy, telekenesis, and OOBE travel."

I am a social worker so I was quite interested in this book because of the title alone. I was hoping it wouldn’t be a predictable love story and it went far beyond my initial expectations. Barbara was an educated college professor who became extremely depressed after her children left home. The depression was there all along but she managed to “put on a face,” as a lot of depressed people do. Yet once the children were gone she began having difficulty “faking it.”

She went to work and home. It wasn’t until her husband realized there were no meals on the table waiting for him that his wife of many years needed help., Barbara was married but spent most of their married life being a servant to her husband and being ignored by him. His life was separate from hers and she never questioned him about the things he did. She just let them be sinking further into herself. He was the popular outspoken one and she wasn’t. She didn’t attend events he invited her to because it reinforced how far apart their two worlds were., Barbara had a life most would envy. A beautiful home, good children, a successful husband and a prestigious career made up her world. Friends were few and that was good enough for her. Despite what she had Barbara felt lost. At the suggestion of her disconnected husband Barbara went to a therapist to get help. What would happen next was extraordinary and of course, unethical. Barbara begins to find herself where she least expected it. Her life began to change on the couch in her doctor’s office., The author told a love story that was funny and quite vivid. I could see the roads that she drove on in New England, the diplomas on the wall in the psychiatrist’s office that she squinted to read on her initial visit, and the beauty that lay within Barbara’s gardens. At times I could see both her joy and pain. Ms. Rose has an amazing ability of grabbing the reader’s attention quickly and drawing them in. I found myself laughing out loud at the author’s humor and feeling sorry for Barbara in other instances. In the end, I applauded her growth as I do Ms. Rose’s storytelling ability. This is a must read and is a perfect book club suggestion or Christmas gift for the reader in your family. What are waiting for?

I found this book "7 Scorpions: Rebellion"
by Mike Saxton to be a riveting piece that was hard to put down. The story is that on May 7th, an event named the Flash Storm devastated the world when it destroyed every major city and military base on the planet. But this wasn't a natural disaster, it was caused by Zodiac. A powerful and evil man who sometimes claims that his Flash Storm was for the better, as it eliminated the majority of the corruption. All until a small group make's it's appearance and gives new hope to the remaining of mankind. Vincent, a powerful and tough man who has a thing for killing Seekers and spreading hope. Alexis is fearless and impressive. Josh, a computer whiz, is too smart for you not to have confidence in. And these three, seem to be gathering an army of their own, quietly and effectively.

I enjoyed the multi-character points of view. Mike’s writing allows you to start forming relationships with each of the characters from the very beginning. This is vitally important when writing a series. Michael Saxton is obviously a gifted and highly imaginative writer. Like no other he can draw the reader into a world of his imagination that seems to become reality while one is literally absorbed into the novel's world.

My Review: It is because of books like this one that I love being a book blogger. I read a lot of good books, but then sometimes I get an absolutely great book like this one. Hidden and Imminent Dangers by D.W. Hardin can hold its own against any of those “Famous” thriller authors on the market today.

Whether describing the emergency department or a compound in Afghanistan, the book’s details bring the locations to life without ever getting too technical. It is fascinating and exciting as the reader becomes an observer in the middle of the action. I especially like that the book includes the stories of not only the doctors, but also police, politicians, soldiers, and religious leaders. This is very well written and scary pandemic drama. I believe it is a very realistic account of just how prepared we would be in case of a pandemic.

There are several dramatic twists and some surprises that I did not expect. I highly recommend Hidden and Imminent Dangers, and I look forward to D.W. Hardin’s next book. This one should be a best seller.

Patricia Dawson is one of those characters a reader remembers all their days. She has spunk, kindness, beauty, intelligence and she is relentlessly brilliant under the greatest duress. Angela on the other hand is like a Patricia Dawson with innate experience and fearless tenacity. Yet all the the characters, from the noble Roger and Sam, to the putrid Bradley Forrester make this the incredible suspense novel it is: in fact every character is memorable, relevant, and provide ingenious, entertaining dialogue and express themselves through grievous circumstances and unimaginable pain, in this action-oriented, plot-driven masterpiece.

Patricia Gayle, has not only authored a phenomenal tale that stretches the range of the readers emotions in believable fashion through uncanny, remarkable events but has etched her name into the classics of all time as her career as a serious talented writer is established through this novel and I look forward to either a series with Trish Dawson and/or other exciting suspenseful creations from Ms. Gayle.

RAINSTORM by Diane Brandow is a modern-day romance set in the idyllic Wyoming countryside. Jessy Kalender inherits the Diamond-K Ranch and millions in assets from her recently deceased father. Brandow’s strength is in her ability to contrast models of strong, long-term relationships against the new passion of the young couple, emphasizing that genuine love survives not only intense passion and melodramatic events but also the realities of everyday life.

At times, RAINSTORM reads a bit more like screenplay than novel; but some inventive scenes, such as Maggie’s dog’s-eye perspectives, are refreshing. More backstory about Jessy’s father and her sister Laney (a most deliciously despicable character) would make for an even juicier read, or perhaps begs a sequel or prequel.

RAINSTORM is optimistic about finding true and enduring love, even the second time around. Diane Brandow delivers a classic romance with passion, humor and sentimental charm.

Bill Poje's new novel PAINLESS takes off from page one and traps and blasts the reader into the "Poje world." A literary roller coaster of a novel that you fear will end way to soon. PAINLESS is an "enjoyable' creative 'Dramedy" with BIG sprinkles of unforgettable characters. PAINLESS is a one way ride on a rocket ship with no seat belts and Bill Poje is steering and having fun doing it.

Augustus Valentine is an original and interesting character. "Aug" is the President of Trove Import-Export. Aug has smuggled precious jewels into the country. Aug is attacked and mugged by culprits who steal the jewels. Aug goes after the bad guys to recover the jewels. Is he successful? Will he get out of the story alive? Aug is an onion and Bill Poje is the onion peeler. Layers and layers and layers are peeled away from Aug chapter by chapter. This is the genius of Poje. He understands that he is "showing" us a very entertaining/interesting adult adventure story rather than telling. PAINLESS is a film in book form. It is a throwback to a 'noir' genre that needed a shot in the literary butt. And Poje succeeds.

WHOOSH! WHAM WHAM!

PAINLESS's plot structure follows Mr. Aug after the robbery as he chases the bad guys! Betrayal and double-crossing is what moves the story swiftly along. There are flashbacks, chase scenes, hurricanes, violence, sex, violence and more sex. There is a plethora of twists, turns and back cover as Poje writes like a season skilled veteran. It's difficult to believe this is Poje's first novel. He understands the arch of a story. He masters the complexities of subplots. He paints FUN, INTERESTING and ORIGINAL characters!

PAINLESS is a thrill ride that has something for everyone and more. Unlike many straightforward novels on the shelves today PAINLESS is a welcome unique sight for sore eyes.

In a recent interview the author says, "Augustus is named after the Roman Emperor who was so powerful that we celebrate one twelfth of the year with a month named for the emperor. The legacy of the Roman Empire lives today but the Roman Empire does not. All of that aside, Aug runs the Trove Import Export company outside of Fort Lauderdale. He achieved this position through his family connections. Through his connections he periodically is required to smuggle goods in and out of the country. This does not bother Aug for he is a man versed in the concepts of legal and illegal activity. He is, in a certain sense, like Joe Kennedy, SR. As far as anyone on the outside is concerned he is just a businessman not involved with anything illegal because being associated with people involved in illegal activity would be bad.

Aug has also suffered a dramatic double whammy in his personal life due to the tragic deaths of his parents and his first wife. These occurred at separate times in his life. During his lifetime he has also survived multiple attempts upon his life. He is a fun guy just trying to get by and have a house and a job and a wife and kids…but life keeps getting in the way. He is now looking towards a future with his girlfriend Jocelyn…will life keep getting in the way?"

Bill Poje understands what entertains the adult mass bookbuyer and pulls no punches and leaves absolutely nothing on the table. PAINLESS fires all guns at once and hits the mark impressively!

Don't Come Here, Julie! is a young adult novel but is maturely and entertainingly written for all ages. The story is set in the future where a young girl named Julie has a mother who has a new job as an ambassador on the planet Norandia. Nordandia is a mysterious planet and Julie's mom has not yet settled into her new job. Julie just had a tough year at boarding school and was excited about a change of scenery. Like all young girls, Julie has a boyfriend named Steve and she needs some 'space' but most of all she really wants to spend the summer with her mom.

Now Julie's mother doesn't tell her she can't go to Norandia, just she shouldn't come right away. Julie does go and finds out her mother has been kidnapped. And so the mysteries of 'why' and 'why' not begin.

Joy Webster does a wonderful job bringing the reader into 'Julie's world' and sets up the story quickly. The author's character descriptions and settings match the exceptional plot.

Norandia is a new planet that has just joined the Interplanetary Council. Julie's mother, Eva, is an Ambassador who has been assigned to Norandia because the Council feels that she is the only one that has the experience necessary to deal with the political tensions there. Julie has heard about these tensions while watching the news, but doesn't realize how bad things are getting. Of course, Eva doesn't talk to her about the situation, because she doesn't want to worry Julie. Therefore, Eva says simply, "Don't come here, Julie"."

Warren and Donna Selkow find themselves in a unique position to address and write about the problems of living with coronary artery disease. In October of 2000 Warren had a "mild" heart attack. The event (the word used by the medical establishment) revealed a very serious underlying condition, a failing aortic valve. Subsequent testing revealed four completely blocked veins, a failing mitral valve and a large aneurism on the aorta. He was scheduled for open-heart surgery to repair all the damage that included a four-way by-pass, a new mitral ring and replacement of his aortic valve with a mechanical devise.

By the end of 2001 Warren found himself in seriously declining health and another test revealed he had a leak in his heart and a mitral valve on the verge of complete failure due to the leak. In January of 2002 he had that valve replaced and a pacemaker implanted.

Donna Selkow was called upon to provide the day-to-day care to ensure Warren's survival. Donna already had extensive experience in caregiving to seriously ill people that literally started when she was a child and she looked after her grandmother. Donna became educated about heart disease and with this education and her already well developed sense of what good care means, nursed her husband through the worst of the times which did not end with just the simple healing of the surgeries. No, her care would be required for the following many years.

Warren was a business executive in the sales and marketing area of Information Technology. During his career he was employed by National Cash Register, Honeywell, IBM and Siebel Systems. He was employed by Siebel Systems when the heart attack and ensuing surgery disabled him and ended his working days.

Donna was a stay-at-home mom who raised their children (as Warren says, “almost single-handedly) due to his travel schedule).

The Selkow's now reside in the Phoenix area and are completely retired. They have two grown children and two grandchildren, both now in their teens.

Books-And-Authors.net: Where did you grow up and was reading and writing a part of your life? Who were your earliest influences and why?

Warren Selkow: I was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa. I am a product of the public education system that existed in that large city at that time. This is important only in so far as I was educated in a system that prized “normal” and I was not that. Oh for the days of the “red menace”, Joe McCarthy, the House Un-American Committee and dear old Dwight Eisenhower, our President. You know, an easier time when the only thing you had to fear was the rampant bigotry and ignorance and stupidity. Other than that it was an ideal time.
I was greatly influenced by a group of non-traditional heroes. They were Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. Remember, I was raised in Philadelphia so it was a usual practice to ride my bike downtown and visit the historical locations.
My family influencers were my mother and father, who taught me the value of hard work, my Uncle Ben, who taught me to challenge everything and my Uncle Joe who taught me to be accepting, challenge conventional wisdom and be endlessly curious.

Back to my education; when I was in the third grade I was doing very poorly. My mother thought I was bored so she took me to the Philadelphia Library and got me a library card, my very own library card (what a great gift is a library card). The school system was determined I read at a third grade level. The only problem was I was reading at a six and seventh grade level. So I would have to say that reading was very important to me. I currently read between two or three novels a week and have for many years. It was only as an adult that I learned that I could write an intelligent sentence, paragraph and chapter.

Books-And-Authors.net: Why did you write The Simplified Handbook for Living with Heart Disease and Other Chronic Diseases? What is your personal story?

Warren Selkow: On October 10th, 2000, a Thursday, I woke up at about 11pm with the worst case of indigestion I had ever had. This is quite amazing given my years of eating everything that got near my mouth or was within reach. Antacids did not help. In great distress I flew to my computer (I did not have to open a sash and there was no Santa Claus) and Yahooed “heart attack symptoms.” Of the eight listed symptoms I was having seven. The only one I was not having was “death” which I would say is probably a symptom discovered as a result of a post mortem.

Fortunately for me I lived only five minutes from an Emergency Room and off we went. The blood test confirmed I was in fact having a heart attack, which the ER docs quickly stopped and saved my sorry butt. Thank you, thank you, and thank you.

The following morning I as given an echocardiogram and the tech told me the great medical lie. I asked what she saw and she said, “I don’t read them, I only take them.” As she finished the test my wife and son showed up in the room. It was not yet 8am. I am worried about when I can go home. A few minutes after the tech left my room, a nurse showed up and began puttering around the room. We did not think too much about it at the time but the cardiologist who wanted her to keep and eye on me sent her there. A few minutes later, the cardiologist, Dr. Steven Raskin, appeared as if by magic. He quickly figured out what kind of Type A jerk I was and without wasting a word said: “You have a chronic, serious and severe leaking aortic valve and if it is not repaired you will be dead in six months.” I replied, “Can’t be. I am scheduled to start a class on methodology on Monday, there are a hundred or so consultants scheduled to take that class. And the following week I am the keynote speaker at a major industry function in Atlanta, and several thousand are scheduled to be there.”

The good doctor didn’t miss a beat and said to me, “Well you may be going but you will not be coming home.” As you can guess, I retired that very day. I was only fifty-eight. A subsequent angiogram revealed I had four completely block arteries and an aneurism larger than a golf ball on my aorta. On October 26 all those problems were fixed and a few others like a malfunctioning mitral valve. I received a four-way bypass and my aortic valve was cut out and replaced with a St. Jude mechanical valve.

I was sent home to heal. And I did until the following June or so. I started to decline and nobody seemed to know why. In December 2001 I got seriously sick again and a test revealed my mitral valve had sprung a leak. On January 10th, 2002, that valve was replaced with another mechanical valve. I could not sustain a regular heartbeat so a pacemaker was implanted. In November of 2002 my heart still could not sustain a regular beat so an AV node ablation was done. I am now completely dependent on my pacer and have no complete natural heartbeat of my own. Ain’t technology great? Now I am bored to tears about my story so please don’t ask again.

Books-And-Authors.net: How has your personal lifestyle for better health changed? Exercise? Diet?

Warren Selkow: My lifestyle has undergone a tremendous remake. My daily routine includes an hour of low impact exercise (seven days a week), carefully monitored intake of salt and stringent rules as to daily intake of fat. Believe this, if I can do it, anybody can.

Books-And-Authors.net: In The Simplified Handbook for Living with Heart Disease and Other Chronic Diseases, you write "When I first started to write this, I had no plans as to what the final use of this book would be. In fact, it wasn’t even a book. It was, at best, a short monograph." Explain.

Warren Selkow: In 1492 Christopher Columbus found what would be dubbed “The New World).” Oh, wait, that’s another story. The book came about the following way:

1. My wife got sick and tired of listening and watching me bore anyone I could latch on to and explain about my surgery and what a poor boy I was. Stop complaining to strangers, she chided me, and start writing some of this stuff down.
2. I had some serious up and downs, mostly downs, and was fortunate enough to have my cardiologist fire me. I was sent to another cardiologist. Thank you, thank you and thank you again. My new cardiologist was Dr. Joseph Caplan. As part of his practice he made me enroll in his well-ness clinics, including lipid and CHF counseling. It was during one of those sessions; conducted by Michele Ridings, his RN in charge of education I had a curious thought. “If I had only known all this stuff when I first got sick, my life would have been very different.”
3. I wrote a paper of about 20 or so pages entitled, “Confessions of a Foodaholic”. I gave the paper to Michele and asked her if she would just show it other patients. She didn’t do that. She gave it to Dr. Caplan, instead.
4. When I saw Caplan sometime later, he had the paper. He said that what I had written was really a core curriculum for four chronic diseases, heart disease, diabetes, COPD and renal failure. Would I expand and expound on what I had written. I didn’t really want to but I did and “The Simplified Handbook For Living With Heart Disease and Other Chronic Diseases, is that result.

In 1994, Griffin did what political experts said was impossible. He literally stormed onto the political scene and defeated an incumbent Georgia State Senator.
The victory made Griffin the first African American in modern times to be elected in a rural legislature district containing a majority of white voters.
In 2000, Griffin continued to do what political experts said was impossible by becoming the first African American mayor of the Old Capitol City of Milledgeville, GA.
The Honorable Floyd Griffin served as Senator of Georgia’s Twenty-fifth District for two terms. In the Georgia Senate, Griffin was Chairman of the Interstate Cooperation Committee and served on the Defense and Veteran’s Affairs, Health and Human Services, Higher Education, Local and State government operations and the powerful Rules committees.

In 1998, Griffin was candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia. His candidacy for Lieutenant Governor made him the first African American to run for that office in modern times. Griffin was elected Mayor of the city of Milledgeville for the term 2002–2006. He was the sixty-seventh Mayor to serve. Former Mayor Griffin served on the Board of Directors of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Alexandria, VA. In 1967, he entered the United States army. In Vietnam, Griffin served as a helicopter pilot, instructor pilot, aviation platoon leader and commander of a construction engineer company. After combat service he commanded an engineer battalion under General Norman Schwarzkopf, then served on the Army Staff at the Pentagon and was later promoted to the rank of colonel.

Floyd Griffin has also worked as an educator. At Wake Forest University he served as an Assistant Professor of Military Science. He was the director of ROTC at Winston-Salem State University, where he coached the football team’s backfield as they won two conservative college championships. Griffin has served as a part-time instructor at the Georgia College and State University School of Business.

In a recent interview the author says, "When I was growing up, Dad had a grocery store business and a wood delivery route. He was an entrepreneur during a time when it was a very rare thing for a black man. All of us were expected to work with him in whatever business he was in and there was a time for work and a time for play. Dad was a strict disciplinarian, but he was also a man of great integrity. He always did what he said he was going to do and he helped others as much as he could. His example demonstrated to me that I could do and be anything that I could conceive of."

Author Corey Washington has written a complete and informative book about racism to "open conversations" about race, prejudice, stereotypes and the slang used in modern society today and yesterday.

The author begins with the general definitions :

Racism: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.

Stereotype: something conforming to a fixed or general pattern. Especially a standardized mental picture that is held in common by members of a group and that represents an oversimplified opinion, prejudiced attitude,

or uncritical judgment.

Prejudice: an adverse opinion or leaning formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge. An irrational attitude of hostility directed against an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics.

Racism is the belief that race is a primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. Or, on the opposite side, racism can be described as the belief that a certain race or races portray undesirable characteristics. In the case of institutional racism, certain racial groups may be denied rights or benefits, or get preferential treatment. Careers and lives have been ruined by racism.

I sincerely applaud Mr. Washington for his in depth look into racial subject matter and writing a book that is for every person at every level of society.

O. J, Tawana Brawley, Duke Lacrosse Players, Willie Horton, Susan Smith, Ricci v. Destefano (Ct. Firemen), Gates vs. Crowley and Michael Vick.

In a recent interview, Mr. Washington said, "I hope people read Plain Talk and realize that we can do without many of the slurs and stereotypes that we have in our minds. I hope that readers will take responsibility for their actions and learn from the mistakes of others.... I came away from this book learning what stereotypes I need to shy away from. I have learned something new about a particular culture that I didn't even think about before. I am determined to not use slurs in my personal life. Also, I don’t want slurs being used around me as jokes. I understand why this particular slur is hurtful to this particular race. I get it now!"

Plain Talk – Volume I by Corey Washington is easy to read and should be in every library in the country. This is a great mind opening, informative read and a wonderful reference book for everyone.
